The Little Gems books are appealing first readers that have been especially designed with spaced text and an innovative, easy-to-read font for those who struggle with reading (including dyslexic children).

Including books by authors including Julia Donaldson, Jeremy Strong and Michael Morpurgo, the tales in this collection also feature artwork by well-known illustrators including Chris Riddell, Peter Bailey and Hannah Shaw. A marvellous introduction to chapter books, children will get to enjoy stories about animals, friendship and adventures as they work their way through.

These books also feature black and white illustrations and fun extras such as jokes and games to encourage and entertain. The stories are split into manageable short chapters to help make reading on your own less scary.

Format: paperback
Please note these Little Gem Readers are a larger format than some you may have seen in the shops. As we are offering 10 books for under £10, our editions have white paper but are still presented in a style that is suitable for anyone who struggles with reading.

As a read-aloud book -

My 5-year-old son is not reading independently at all but we read a lot together. We've really enjoyed reading and re-reading many of these books. My son can't quite get into "real" chapter books (e.g. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) in part because he doesn't have the patience/interest to follow a story over multiple days and readings. These books can be read out loud in 1-2 sittings. I'd recommend this nice mix of stories and levels to parents who are just starting to read chapter books to their kids. I'd definitely buy another set like this.

My son just read his first chapter book! -

My son has been interested in books from very early on, and since he started school in September his interest in reading has really been sparked! He is progressing quickly and I have found these books a brilliant level for him! He has just read his first independent chapter book and is already making a dent in the next one. The vocabulary is varied, providing some tricky words alongside familiar and phonetic words. And the pictures dotted throughout are great talking points alongside the story. I now need a recommendation for another set!

More please! -

This collection is perfect for readers who are new to independent reading, want the chapter book format, but can't handle small, dense text and still want pictures. My son and daughter (8 and 7) both love these. I'm finding it hard to find anything else at the same sort of level and format. We'd love more!

Brilliant -

These books are really engaging with great font and lovely illustrations. Please can you release another collection? Yes, it would be lovely to have these on cream paper, but not everyone can afford to access this fabulous series at the additional cost. Great collection, please make another one asap!

Not the same as other little gems -

The same stories but produced in a different format to the standard little gems: it is a larger book size, lower quality paper and printing and generally not as well produced. Rather disappointing, especially as it wasn't clear in the description that this is a different format edition.
