Following the Dayton Peace Agreement between the warring Bosnian Serbs and Bosnian Muslims, NATO began its first land operation, taking over from the UN Protection Force. That same day a British battlegroup moved from Sarajevo to northwest Bosnia, a total of only two hundred men and the only British troops in that part of Bosnia.It was charged to enforce the peace in an area of responsibility a hundred kilometres wide, through which wound a front line separating the territory of the Bosnian Muslims from that of the Bosnian Serb forces.
