Find Another Place (Paperback)

Ben Graff

Find Another Place is an autobiographical meditation on family, focusing on childhood, parenting, the passage of time, loss, love, faith and memory. It explains a lifelong relationship with the game of chess and a developing relationship with literature and the desire to write. A family's interactions with the Isle of Wight, in war and peace, happy times and sad, runs through the narrative. Interwoven into the story are various other materials - a journal his grandfather, who had always wanted to be a writer, gave to the author shortly before his death. Letters from the author's parents written in the 1970s, before they were married, together with a handful of poems, extracts from diaries, and other materials. It is possible to get to know someone better, even after they are gone. Part historical meditation on people now gone, part detective story and journey of discovery, the book speaks to how we remember and re-assess what has gone before and how we make sense both of our here and now and the future. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; text-align: justify; line-height: 14.0px; font: 11.0px 'Hoefler Text'} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; text-align: justify; line-height: 14.0px; font: 11.0px 'Hoefler Text'; min-height: 13.0px} span.s1 {letter-spacing: -0.1px} Find Another Place is poignant, up-lifting and often funny. Anyone who has ever lost a parent; had a child or reflected on the fragility and beauty inherent in everyday life will enjoy this book.
