Celebrating the actions and achievements of 25 of the world's greatest figures, Stand Up, Stand Out! is the follow-up to the phenomenally successful What Would She Do?
Focusing on rebel heroes who overcame seemingly impossible circumstances and stood up for what they believed in and also those who spoke out against injustices, this book is packed with informative profiles and incredible artwork of the likes of Nelson Mandela, Maya Angelou and J.K. Rowling.
As well as world leaders and contemporary favourites, this book focuses on unsung heroes including Irena Sendler (who rescued 2,500 children in World War II) and Juliane Koepcke (who survived an airplane crash in a rainforest aged just 17).
Each profile is also accompanied by a 'What Can You Do?' section which asks the reader to think about their actions if they encountered similar obstacles to these inspiring figures.
I have bought this for a 9-year-old boy, for whom I had previously bought 'Boys Who Dare to be Different' and 'Stories for Kids Who Dare to be Different' which he loved. It contains the stories of historical figures some of whom are well known, others not so. Probably suitable for young people in the 9-13 age group who like reading true stories about the wider world.
