John Simpson, a hugely acclaimed and successful journalist, turns his attention to fiction in this powerful, poignant and witty contemporary thriller.

A sex game has gone wrong and government minister Patrick Macready has been found dead in his flat. The coroner has ruled it an accident but old-school journalist Jon Swift is certain something doesn't seem right. Days later, Macready's flat is 'burgled' and Swift discover his old friend had been researching a slew of Russian government figures who have wound up dead in similar 'accidental' circumstances...

With no help on offer from the police, Swift tracks down a contact in Moscow and finds himself drawn into a violent underworld full of conspiracies, assassinations and double-agents crossing each other at every turn...

Witty and engrossing novel -

I didn't know John Simpson wrote fiction so well! This book (not yet finished, but I can hardly put it down) has a dry wit and the main character's self knowledge gives a clear focus to the plot. I will look out for his other novels now.
