From Oxford Reading Tree, the Traditional Tales Collection brings together a number of enchanting stories that have been shared for generations. The charming books, including The Ugly Duckling, I Will Get You and The Foolish Fox, have been sensitively rewritten using phonics so that children will be able to read them themselves. Suitable for children aged 3 and over, the books are broken down into five stages of learning to read, with four wordless picture books included at Stage 1 level.

The other books in the collection contain more use of phonics, letters and sounds so children can develop their reading skills as they enjoy the charming stories. All the books have information on their back cover stating which stage they belong to and useful tips on the inside cover for parents about reading and retelling the story together.

"Great set" -

Perfectly suited for reception/y1 little ones, where you can start reading to them and slowly they will slowly start to read themselves. Highly recommended!

"Ideal for pre-school up" -

These books are ideal for children from the age of 3 upwards. When children start school, they often start with books without words to develop their imagination and storytelling capability. The first books in this collection do that. The next have a few words and they progress to more text and harder words. I think they are ideal for early readers and children who have just started school. It's nice to have the variety and to get away from Biff, Chip & Floppy once in a while when helping your child to start reading.

"Lovely collection of books" -

This collection of books offers a gentle introduction to reading, each reading stage is colour coded on the spine of the book. The first couple of books have big colourful illustrations with no words, personally I think this is great because it encourages my children (and me!) to think of different ways to tell the story - excellent for their imaginations. More words are added at each reading stage which means that children learn a few words at a time - my daughter has felt quite daunted with some books that present whole sentences. A beautiful set of books to help children learn to read. I would definitely recommend these.

"Good starter books" -

My daughter is coming up to 4 and she loves reading these books to me. We're working our way through them and she loves the fact that they are based on stories that we already know. First ones are very basic but we read and then add to the story by looking at what's going on in the pictures. The same with the first four which have no words. We make up our own story. A great buy.

"Traditional Tales" -

Very disappointing as I bought this set to give to 4 year olds going to school. Not at all what I expected as it didn't explain in the description when I purchased them that these books were for the children to read themselves! Definitely wouldn't have bought them if I'd known this as I wanted storybooks for parents/carers to read to their children. I will definitely be returning them. Perhaps it would be a good idea if the website could be set up so that customers could see inside the books like you can on Amazon. This is the first time I've ordered books in this way and possibly won't be doing so again!!!

TBP says: Hi Maggie, we are sorry for any inconvenience. We have now amended the description to make it clearer that the books have been written so that children can read them themselves. Regards.
