The River Cottage Handbooks Collection features ten practical guides that will help you get the most out of the food you love, including mushrooms, fruit, cakes, herbs and edible seashore produce. Each book has been written by a local expert and features an introduction from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Delightful reading that also offers sensible, user-friendly advice you can rely on, the books focus on the local, seasonal produce that is at the very heart of Hugh's River Cottage and each book reflects the quality, thought and pride that goes into living the good life.
I have bought this set for several of my friends as wedding presents. they are an excellent price - very very cheap for what they are - yet they look sooooo expensive. Without exception they have been very well received and much appreciated. You can get some excellent value cookbooks from the Book People and I've made up sets in the past to give as gifts and they have all gone down well.
Fantastic comprehensive collection. These are not all recipe books which is what worried me, although they all contain a great selection of recipes. The cakes, breads, preserves are nearly solely recipes, whilst others are in-depth instructions ie vegpatch and fantastic in depth identification guideshedgerow, mushrooms, edible seashore etc. And absolute necessity for a country bumpkin.
Outstanding Value for Money -
Ordered 5 days before Christmas and they turned up on Monday 22/12/2013. These were a treat for my husband who has not put them down. I have managed to get a little look in and they are so informative, and as they are in their own little book case, so easy to keep together and clean. Well done Book People, will be buying loads more from you. Bought Peter Rabbit collection for grandsons, they just love them.
Excellent quality -
The content, as can be expected from River Cottage, is excellent. Given how cheap the set is, I was expecting inferior paper and binding so I was very pleasantly surprised when they arrived, quality is excellent and they look their full book price of over £100. I have already purchased for myself and for a wedding present which was exceedingly well received and I shall be buying more for Christmas presents.
A comprehensive collection, nicely split into handleable volumes. -
This collection doubles up on some areas of cooking that we already have well covered; however, the detail in which each topic is covered ensures that each of the ten volumes will come in handy. Bread is covered in immense detail. The Foraging volume is especially interesting to me, a keen fruit and veg gardener, because it's amazing to see how many of the 'weeds' that I've been throwing away are in fact edible. Unbeatable value, especially with my extra 15% discount.
