Superb book for keen cooks. -

I already own a 2001 edition of this book, so I knew what to expect, and I wasn't disappointed. You'll see this information in other reviews, but I think it is worth reiterating. This is a food encyclopedia, it is not a recipe book per se. That said, it does contain many recipes (the recipe index covers 32 pages). And no, it does not contain vast number of pictures, but that is not its intent. This is a reference book, and the range of information is vast - there are not many books where you will be able to see how to poach eggs and also how to poach pig's ears (should you be so inclined!). I have seen some people complain that the paper is thin - well the paper in this edition is exactly the same as my 2001 edition, and that still looks like new, thicker paper would mean more weight, and this is already a heavy book. If you're interested in cookery, or just setting up your home and are not sure what you need, I strongly recommend this book, and at this price it really is a steal.

The Cooks Bible -

Wow, what a tome - probably the most comprehensive cookery book that I've ever owned. Makes our beloved Delia original look tiny.

"Desert Island Cookbook" -

If you could only take one cookbook with you to a desert island - this has to be it. It's the culinary bible. At this price, it's a must too. I actually bought two - a gift for a friend - he was gobsmacked with my generosity. Snap one up now. It's a beautiful book too.
